Work Description
Black and White image of lower Manhattan from Brooklyn with pilings in the foreground.
My intentions were to take a cityscape photograph of the downtown New York City skyline from Brooklyn, looking across the river and to include some pier pylons in the foreground as leading lines. I had seen some similar shots and had been dreaming of getting this shot for years, but I knew it was going to be a challenge. I wasn’t entirely sure where the ideal vantage point would be.
Once we got to Brooklyn, we made our way over to the general area I had picked out. We walked around the area for a while but I couldn’t find the area with the pylons. Fortunately we decided to walk a little further, rounded a corner and there it was. I finally found the perfect spot to take the picture. I settled in and set up my tripod and started taking pictures.
As I was shooting, I heard a barking noise coming my way. I looked up and saw a dog walker with about 12 dogs on leashes. I was so focused on my task that I had not noticed them before. I quickly scrambled to avoid getting tangled in the leashes, and just in time, managed to avoid disaster. I got the shot I had been hoping for - and it was a dream come true.
As I walked away, I could finally breathe a sigh of relief. I had managed to capture the stunning New York City skyline I had envisioned.
