Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy 20x16

Situated in the valley of the badlands, in the Province of Viterbo, in central Italy, Civita di Bagnoregio has a full-time residency of only 12-16 people and is reachable only by a concrete pedestrian bridge. The village is known as “The Dying Town” because of the progressive erosion of the hill on which it stands. Civita was founded more than 2500 years ago by the Etruscans. The current architecture is of medieval and Renaissance origin. It has been used as a location for several film scenes. I first visited this intriguing and beautiful little hilltop town in 2006 and then again in 2016 when this image was made. Many consider it one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
